In recent years, there’s been quite a market for this kind of cleaning product. A lot of people tend to think of these two problems as separate sides of the same coin but they can actually be handled quite well with a single solution if you’re careful about your selection.
There are a lot of different types of cleaners that are on the market, and depending on what you need to clean some will work better than others.
Enzymatic cleaners are pretty new odor eliminators, but pet stain remover is also one of the best solutions around for those who are planning on taking care of the messes left behind by their pets.
They function by doing a complete breakdown of both the compounds which make up the stain and those which produce the odor. They offer a remarkable, biological solution to these sorts of problems.
Most of those which aren’t direct use enzymatic products are made to be used with deep cleaning machines of various stripes. They work great for your carpet anyway, so why not make sure that you get something specifically designed to take care of the assorted feces, vomit, and urine stains that plague many pet owners?
The surface that you’re planning on cleaning the most will definitely have some effect on which product you choose to go with.
That said, many pet stain and odor removers offer at least decent capabilities on both types of surfaces.
We’ve picked out five of the best, modern cleaning products to help you deal with piddle stains and the resulting odor. Each is uniquely suited for something, and all of them are worthwhile for the animal owner who wants to keep their home from smelling and their carpets from being stained by the machinations of their dogs and cats. So, read our best dog urine odor remover reviews and choose the best!
This is a great, all-around solution to anything which you might face as a result of your animals lack of training or illness. Pet Stain and Odor Remover by Sunny & Honey is an enzymatic cleaner which scores top points from us for its ability to be used anytime, anywhere to make short work of even the toughest stains and the foulest odors.
It handles both stains and odor with remarkable results and most people will find that it’s more than sufficient to eliminate pretty much anything they may come across.
No need to worry about staining either, this product breaks down the stains which can emerge from urine in a natural way. This allows things to get settled out and leave you with a clean floor that only has the cleaner’s scent to it.
For those combating both stains and smells in copious amounts, it’s hard to recommend anything other than Sunny & Honey Pet Stain and Odor Remover.

Rocco & Roxie’s Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator lives up to its name. This efficacious liquid will quickly and easily remove odors, but where it really shines is in handling those super hard stains.
The enzymatic action of this cleaner makes short work of even crystallized urine. Keep in mind that “short work” in this instance isn’t an instant solution, but if you’ve got to deal with the truly nasty build up an overnight soak can often take care of things.
Whether you’re taking care of years of build up of dog urine or a malcontent and spraying feline’s mess you’ll be glad to know that things can be handled. Make sure to give it some time to soak and you’ll be well on your way to a cleaner and better smelling floor.
Rocco & Roxie’s mixture works great on both stains and smells, but where it really shines is in taking care of long-neglected floors and helping to restore them to some semblance of sanity.

If you’re not dealing with too many stains, but are instead overwhelmed by the smells of your pet’s leavings then you’re in good hands with this pet and dog urine odor remover from Angry Orange. It’s specifically designed to eliminate pet odor, but it’s really not going to do much about staining.
The citrus scent is nice and easy on the nose and will also discourage all but the most stubborn pets from reusing the area. We all know the pain of having to repeatedly clean the same area and any kind of discouragement from continuing this process unabated is good for both us and our pets.
It’s useful pretty much anywhere. Even if it’s an outdoor kennel or that spot in the backyard you’ll be good to go with this product.
Don’t be fooled by the diminutive size of the bottle either, each 8oz of this product can be used to make up to a gallon of spray since it’s so dilute.
There is one flaw, however, which is that the same citrus smell that discourages your pets from reusing the area is created by orange oil. This is terrible for any kind of hardwood flooring and it’s not worth the risk as it can strip the finish.
If pet odor is the main problem in your home, however, this is exactly what you’re looking for.

While it’s not a standalone product, if you’ve invested in a carpet cleaner then you’re going to be quite happy with Bissell 2X Pet Stain & Odor remover. It’s also a lot cheaper than most standalone options.
This is a concentrated mixture, so make sure to follow the directions otherwise you may risk a bit of damage to your carpet. It’s also really only usable on a carpet, so even if you mix a spray bottle of the stuff you’re not going to get ahead much on hard surfaces.
One of the nice things about this product is that it has Scotchguard built right into it, meaning that you get the cleaning and odor removal followed by a protective layer that will stay in place on the offending rug.
If you’ve got a carpet cleaner already, then this might be just the solution you’re looking for. If not, you can try and mix it in a spray bottle to take advantage of the lowered cost but you might be better off with one of the other standalone products we recommend.

There’s a common theme in anything which we use to handle our pets: a high cost. With TriNova’s Natural Pet Stain and Odor Remover Eliminator, you might just be able to handle the problem without making a super serious investment.
Fortunately, the budget cost doesn’t seem to have had too much of a hit to its efficacy. This stuff works. You’ll be able to handle most stains and odors simply, just spray it down, give it some time to work, and then finish the job.
It does have some shortcomings: this product works best on fresh stains. If you’re moving into a former hoarder’s abode with crystallized urine and ruined floorboards then it’s not going to be sufficient but if things are in decent shape right now and you want to keep them that way it’s perfect.
For those on a tight budget and not needing to handle old stains and odors, Enzyme Cleaner Spray by TriNova will be the best enzyme cleaner for dog urine.
There are definitely some tricks to making sure that you’ve handled pet stains and odors in the best way possible. There are also some homemade remedies which people recommend and some of them are super efficacious.
Most cleaners and odor removers work their best if you attack the problem as soon as it happens. The quicker you get to the disaster the better off you’ll be. Enzymatic solutions are particularly useful this way since fresher material will find the material more “palatable” in the immediate aftermath.
Many of the cheaper cleaners simply won’t work on set in stains and odors. If that’s the case for you, then you’ll need to make sure that you get it with something strong, soak it, and leave it for a considerable period of time.
The main place where you’ll run into a problem with this tactic is hardwood floors, so try it somewhere unseen first to make sure that there won’t be any problems.
Commercial cleaners offer a ready-made solution and generally, when they don’t work properly it can be attributed to user error in some fashion. Make sure you read the instructions and if you have to take multiple runs at the mess then switch up tactics a little bit until you’re able to take care of it.
While commercial products offer a lot of advantages, there are a couple of ways that you can take care of things yourself without investing in a product. They might not be quite as efficacious but it’s always good to save a bit of cash.
The first solution most people try is a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. Mix a cup of white vinegar, two tablespoons of baking soda, and a cup of warm water then apply it to the stain while the whole mixture is still bubbling.
Let it sit for five to ten minutes then grab a towel and scrub the offending area. This actually works pretty well in a lot of cases, but the smell of vinegar can be overpowering for some people. This is mostly good for taking care of odors but the vinegar can often cut through some staining as well.
If you’re working with tile or white carpet, then you might want to try a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Try mixing a cup of baking soda, a half cup of 2% hydrogen peroxide, and a dash of dish soap.
Apply this mixture and scrub vigorously to get the most out of it. You’ll want to vacuum the area afterwards if it’s on carpet.
Do not use the hydrogen peroxide solution on deeply colored carpet. You will not like the result.
Figuring out which product to use is the first step in making sure that your home stays fresh and neat no matter how many pets you might own. With the best pet stain and odor remover at your side, there’s no need to apologize for smells and stains that tend to accumulate with even the best-mannered buddies around the house. Figure out which is right for you and give it a shot, it’s time you start winning this war.

That is a good point that depending on the surface I need to clean would affect the product I need. It would be good for me to hire someone to come to do this for me since I don't know how to. That way I can have the odor removed and not ruin my floors.
